Abstract
The tubulized incised plate (TIP) urethroplasty commonly preserve the urethral plate during procedure. We retrospectively reviewed our clinical data to compare the surgical outcome of the TIP urethroplasty with other procedures for hypospasias correction. We performed TIP urethroplasty in 55 patients, transverse preputial island flap (TPIF) urethroplasty in 18 and onlay island flap (OIF) urethroplasty in 15, between April 2000 and December 2005. The age at the time of surgery, operation time, postoperative complications and duration for the development of the complications in each procedure were compared. The mean age of the patients in the TIP, TPIF and OIF urethroplasty group was 6.2, 4.8 and 5.4 years, respectively. The mean operation time in the TIP group was 182 minutes, while it was 245 and 287 minutes in the TPIF and OIF group. The mean admission periods were shorter in the TIP group than other procedure, estimated 12.5, 13.7 and 14.8 days in TIP, TPIF and OIF group. The success rates, according to the type of repair, were 72.7%, 66.6% and 73.3% in TIP, TPIF and OIF group. The complication rate was much more lower in TIP group than in other groups. The incidence of urethral stricture, urethrocutaneous fistula and penile curvature in TIP group was 14.5%, 7.3% and 5.5%, not greatly different from other groups. The TIP urethroplasty has advantages over the TPIF and OIF procedure in regard to operation time, catheterization period, admission period and success rates.
